Mid-Winter

3 Fir Beams on Screw Piles

Since the trees were cleared, a lot of time was spent waiting.   It took until early September before the plans were finally approved by the municipality.  I had already received quotes to have screw-piles put in for the foundation and that proceeded, on one fine day in mid-October.  I had already sourced my beams.  They were tricky because I needed a 20 foot span to achieved code and they were hard to find.  But I found them and the three ply beams were built on to the screw-pile brackets then and there, as the crew was finishing installing the piles. Then, finally, toward the end of November the builder announced that time had been allotted to complete the floor.  The materials were ordered, delivered and the builder brought in a crew, and as promised had the floor built and wrapped in under 4 days.  Done, as per my goal, before the winter snow.
The Floor.  Fully insulated.

It has been a luscious and snowy winter.  I am planning for phase two, which is to build the cabin, but not the sun porch nor the utility porch, which will be on the south and north sides of the cabin, respectively.  Today, I walked in to enjoy the winter piece of my little place.

Clearing

So far, since December 1, a lot has happened at thallotment.

First the survey, pins in all four corners.

Then a footpath was christened from the south east corner.

Then bits of brush and pacing and planting of a fire pit.

Next the approach and culvert.

Then an arbourist listened to what I wanted, and the first weekend of March went in with a worker and buzzed away.  Today, I went and looked at the new face of Thallotment.

I took this video.  I'll take a few more through the seasons and show the progress.
